Not Your Average Family Dinner

It’s funny how our culture has two very different ideas of how family gatherings tend to go. There is the classical approach–mom, dad, the kids and a big table of food, all peppered with lovely conversation 1950’s style. Then there is what I like to refer to as the modern approach–parents, kids, food, all together as before, but everyone bickering and hollering above the food. My dinners usually fall somewhere between the two ends of the spectrum, but this year was more of the classic family dinner.

We had a wonderful menu that my MIL made for us. It was divine. We had great conversation to with dinner. Adults talking about fond memories and current event and everything in between. We also had three small children at the house who were very well behaved during dinner. My baby even managed to take a nap while we were eating so we could have a break! Everyone was civil (not that we usually aren’t), and we all had a great time. I look forward to our next gathering.

What I am Thankful for

*I am incredibly thankful for my loving husband and my beautiful daughter. Without them, I am not the person that I want to be.

*I am thankful that my husband and I are able to provide for our daughter’s every whim and fancy. She is such a spoiled baby, and I would not have it any other way.

*I am thankful that I have good friends that I am able to talk to and share feelings that I have not been able to for a long time. There is something to be said for a good friend. They are hard to come by, and sometimes even harder to keep. I always try to keep the ones I have!

*I am thankful that I am able to get out of the bed every morning and face the day. There are people that cannot do that. I am very happy that I can.

*I am thankful that I am finding myself a little bit more every day. Hopefully, I will be all found by the time I can’t look anymore!

*I am grateful for being able to think for myself. I rely on others to help formulate opinions much of the time, but believe it or not, I am actually able to form independet thoughts!

*I am thankful that there are people in this world that are trying to make a difference. Those people are the true heroes. Many of them will never receive their due.

*I am grateful for Teachers, Policemen, Firemen, EMT’s, and Sanitation Workers. These are all jobs that I would never want to do, but appreciate the time, effort, and love that must go into doing what these people do.

*I am thankful for the people at Sesame Street. They have created a wonderful outlet for their talent while allowing my child to sit and be entertained and educated. It also does not hurt that I can do chores when she is mesmorized!

*And finally, I am thankful for all the time that I am able to devote to the rasing of my child. I cannot imagine our life any other way. I adore every single minute with her, for I know that the alternative is way worse. I am trying to cherish every moment that I am with her–even the mundane and fussy ones!

It was hard to come up with ten things that I am truly thankful for, without just listing items that fall in the same categories. I challange all of you to do the same thing.

On a lighter note: Whoooooo PIG SOOIE! Go Hogs! Beat LSU!!!
