Many thoughts on the last week

Last weekend was a very busy time for our family. Friday, Dr. D’s side of the family assembled to have a belated birthday celebration for his younger brother. It’s ALWAYS an ordeal when we get together at a restaurant. But it was delicious as always, and the kids were relatively good during the meal. We always have such a good time when we all get together.

After dinner, I had an evening planned with two women that I went to High School with. We were good friends during HS, and after we graduated, I went to college with one of these gals. The other one ended up moving in the middle of Sr. Year, and I have not spent much time with her since we were in HS. Recently, the three of us have reconnected in a way via blogging. We decided to have a girls night reunion! And man, did I need it. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting and talking about things with these two ladies. We fell back into a very comfortable and familiar pattern that made it easy to rehash old times and share new ones. We have each changed in our individual ways, and I absolutely loved seeing what interesting women these two “girls” have become. I am just sad that it has taken this long to find this out! Thanks ladies for a great evening out–It was GREAT!

Saturday, we ended up having a small, impromptu garage sale. We tore through the house the day before and weeded out several things that we did not need any longer. It was great feeling to set these things out and have them go to new homes. It also was a great feeling to get some much needed cash for these items! We freecycled the remainder of the items. It’s great to know that we don’t have to move this stuff!

Saturday afternoon Dr. D, Baby Girl, and I headed out to the Greek Food Festival. Each year, the Greek Church in the area holds their annual fundraiser, which is a huge food festival. Gyros, Paistitso, Spanikopita, and all the salad and Pita Bread that you could ever want are the main draws at this huge feast. Baby Girl just loved the Gyro meat, and so did we! It is always nice to see what they have to offer for entertainment too. They have all the dance troupes in the city come out and perform. Musicians also take the stage. It is wonderful to see the talent that the city has to offer.

After taking a few days off, my sister-in-law and I decided that we needed a girls’ night out. She, her niece, and I went to a local bar and had a great time. The drinks were good, but the conversation was better. You know that you have exited the “college-years” and entered the “mommy-years” when one of you pulls out a pad of Mad Libs to play. Let’s just say that it’s a very good thing that my nephew can’t read. I would turn beet-red if he was able to read some of the things we came up with!! We had a great time, and it was so nice to go out with these girls and be “women” and not “mommies”.

Our days are getting busier and busier all the while our time is escaping faster and faster. We are trying to cram in every bit of time with our family and friends that we possibly can. This weekend, we are visiting in NW Arkansas with several members of Dr. D’s family. It has been a nice and I will write more about the trip when we return. I will also try to post some pictures as soon as I can. I am off to bed now. It is so quiet and peaceful here. I can’t wait to share more about it.
