WFMW: Water!

wfmwheader

This week, Shannon over at Rocks in My Dryer is hosting WFMW: The Mom-I’m-Bored Edition. Check out all of the other tips and tricks for keeping your kiddos entertained and hopefully out of trouble this summer.

As far as my tip goes, I have one word: WATER!!!

Last summer, we spent much of our time at the pool, and that was wonderful! Baby Girl was not old enough to walk yet, so she just floated in her crabby float and learned that water splashes. Since then, a year has passed and my Baby Girl is now a walking, talking, toddler. Though she has changed so much over the past year, one thing has remained constant…..She LOVES water. Baths, sinks, showers, dog dishes and yes, even potties. We can’t even get her to keep her hands out of our glasses at dinner time! She even likes rain!

This summer, we plan to go to the pool as often as we can. When we can’t go, I guess we’ll either hook up the sprinkler or hit the tub. It always puts her in a better mood when she is wet! It’s funny, I remember doing the same thing when I ws little. My sister and I always wanted to fill the pool up in the backyard. I guess I will be in for a good few years of the same thing!

That’s what works for me. What works for you?

*Updated: Wow.  I can’t believe that I got the first spot.  I wasn’t really trying, just good luck.  I just wish my tip was more “original!”

  1. You’re right! Doesn’t matter in what form, water play is the way to go! Have a fun summer with your little one! She’s adorable.

  2. I’m keeping a list. Thanks.

  3. Water play is awesome! We keep a baby pool in the backyard (overturned, to keep the mosquitos out), and fill it up as often as we can in the summer. Add a few buckets, shovels, strainers, and ladles, and you’ve got yourself a party!

  4. I once saw a lady pour water into her kid’s tray on their stroller. You’d be surprised how well that little puddle entertained their strolling baby! Have a happy-wet summer!

  5. Oh, I so very agree! – WATER!

  6. Wow, how cool, wish we could afford to spend lots of time at the pool, and really really wish it was warm enough for long enough to make out door pools fun!

  7. Hey, you really ought to check into a water babies class. It’s wonderful for getting kids to really LOVE the water, and worked like a charm for our 2nd.

  8. Ingredients:
Ice – Buy about 5 to 8 large bags of ice or find a large company that will often donate that much ice:) ( not hard to do in a large city)
    Water
small baby pool and small toddler toys ( at least 2 per child involved.)

Place Ice, water and toys in small baby pool.

Have all children in swimsuits or shorts and shirts to get wet.
Seat them around the baby pool.
Tell them to put their hands behind their backs.
Tell them to use only their feet to dig the toys out of the icy water!
LOTS OF FUN! They will laugh and scream and tell the world how cold they got on the hottest summer day!

  9. I just bought a blow up baby pool at Walmart for 3.00 something. I put it on the back patio. Fun! Fun! Best yet, cheap fun!

  10. Cannot go wrong with water.

  11. I already bought my kid’s their kiddie pool! Saves us all our sanity because the kids have something to do and mom keeps them outside and therefore keeps a clean house!

  12. Great idea! I must admit that the best part of the pool is how thoroughly it wears out my kids. The worst part is how thoroughly it wears out me!

  13. Great Tip!

My kids ask all the time when we can go back to the beach or go to the pools, unfortunetly it’s winter here in Australia :)
