…the world might just become a better place.
I love TV. I will be the first to admit it, and the last to deny it. I watch way too much, with the help of my DVR. Because of that, I don’t usually watch commercials. I catch the interesting ones on YouTube, whenever I make it around to hearing about them. They are usually cute, funny, idiotic, or really well animated.
I heard about this commercial this week. Go watch it and then come back to read the rest of the post.
Personally, I think that this is a great idea for a commercial. It’s clever, funny, and it definitely conveys a message of safe sex. Unfortunately, CBS and FOX don’t agree. In the past, CBS and FOX have aired Trojan commercials (as well as other companies commercials) because they were touting the need for disease prevention by using a condom. While this is a very valid reason to put on a condom, most people don a raincoat for a very different reason–Pregnancy Prevention.
This new ad, makes no mention of the disease prevention side of using condoms. It only alludes to using a condom for pregnancy prevention. Because of this, CBS and FOX have chosen not to air this ad. They are claiming that the lack of a “disease centered” message is too controversial for their religious viewers.
Yeah. Because FOX is known for their HIGHLY religious programming.
If anything, their viewers are the ideal demographic for this ad. Sadly, they may not see it. I am not advocating the use of TROJAN condoms in particular, but I feel that this is a good ad. It is a shame that people will not see it on these networks. If only the pigs that run those networks would evolve…
Planned Parenthood has launched a petition campaign for this. Check it out here.
