My parents are self-employed at a company that ships all of their business. Because of this, they always have various styles of boxes on hand to fit whatever need that they have. Growing up around this business, I was able to play with tons of boxes, making things from forts to “kickboxes”. These days, I take advantage of this mainly when we move. When my family moved to a different city a few years ago, we discovered the wonderful boxy goodness that is a waxed chicken box.
Ok, so it’s a box that is designed to get frozen chicken to its end point. I know. Not glamorous at all, but it works for us.
These boxes are just the right size for me to carry, have handles on each end, have a sturdy lid, and are waxed to prevent leaking of foods and whatnot. They are PERFECT for our moving needs. I know that they are not very environmentally friendly, but in our defense, we try to pass them along after we are done so someone else can reuse them. They don’t require any tape for assembly, and if you want to use masking tape to mark them, it peels right off so you can reuse the box. I find that these boxes are extremely sturdy and fit our moving needs exceptionally well.

Did they have raw chicken in them? Or can you get them non-chicken used? And where to you get them?
Oh Nikki! My Chicken Boxes have never been used! I get them “fresh.” That would be the only way to use them. You should not use boxes that have been previously used for raw anything.
Thanks!
Where do you get chicken boxes??
A box company will have the boxes that you need.
I’ll have to remember that if we ever move again – good luck with the packing!
My dad used to always get a frozen turkey as part of his Christmas bonus. Those boxes were awesome for storing stuff. Another good box are the ones that computer paper come in. Staples always has deals on them. Obviously it would be expensive to get the boxes, but if you buy paper like that, keep the box!
Well, here they use reusable plastic containers, so that doesn’t help. LOL!
But I don’t like those large moving boxes either.
When moving I pack them half with heavy stuff and half with towels or so.
