WFMW: Frugal Handsoap

I have stopped buying handsoap at my house!! Seriously, y’all. I don’t buy handsoap. I only buy dishsoap.

I learned this trick after reading about one of the pampered chef foaming soap dispensers. All you do is fill the container with just a tiny bit of soap and add water. Swirl around to mix together and it dispenses a beautifully thick foam. I had one of these fancy-schmancy soap dispensers but it finally broke and we did without for a long time. Until I found this.

I already use method products in just about every room in my house. Their multipurpose cleaner is wonderfully gentle to use and it smells great. They also have tons of other semi-earth friendly products, including dishsoap and handsoap. I have started just getting the dishsoap and refilling my handsoap pump with a tiny bit. It produces a luxurious (yes, luxurious) foam that is PERFECT for my little toddler! She loves to squirt it out and wash her own hands. It is already bubbled up enough that my little one does not have to struggle with making it suds herself.

This is what is working for me. What works for you? Head on over to Rocks in My Dryer to find other tips and tricks, and to post your own

*Updated:

Lori: Yes, the top on the cheaper method dispenser unscrews. I don’t think that they make thier own refill soap yet, so I just put the dishsoap directly into that with a touch of warm water. It works great!

Nikki: Yeah, my pump got stuck to the point it was a huge hassle to “un-stick” it. We just tossed it, eventually. This works better anyway….and when it stops working I will just recycle it and get another cheapie!

  1. Great idea!!! I filled our handsoap container with Lavender Palmolive but I thought it was just a temporary fix. Maybe I will leave it that way :)

  2. Hmm… maybe I’ll try this brand. I’ve bought numerous Pampered Chef ones that in no time get stuck and don’t pop back up. I am beyond irritated with them. Does yours get stuck after a while?

  3. I love this idea, but have you noticed that some of the foaming dispensers don’t open? I guess they don’t want us to refill. :>(

  4. I’ve bought the foaming hand soap at Bath and Body Works when it’s on mega sale. Then I dilute it way down. ;) Your system looks like it’d work great too!!

  5. What a great idea! :)

  6. I just started using watered down dish soap in my foaming soap dispenser. I go on of the kids foaming soaps in sale at the grocery. I’ve just been refilling that. It works great. And it’s never gotten stuck, but even if it did it was only a couple of bucks with soap.

  7. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Great tip! I’ve been wanting to try Method for a long time, too. I guess I should spring for it!
